Pinecones in your indoor planter will discourage cats from walking in the dirt and digging holes. The pinecones are uncomfortable for their feet. You can pour water directly over the cones it wont hurt the plants and the plants also get plenty of air.
Have you noticed that a cat will drink water from many sources (toilet, shower, sink, your glass of water) but rarely from her water bowl? Well, most of us put her food and water bowl right beside each other. I have found that most cats don't like this. Move her water bowl to another part (away from the food) of the same room and show her where it is at. You'll see that soon she will drink from that bowl and be less thirsty to drink from other sources.
