We help to pass the time on long car trips by playing with magnetic letters and various magnetic toys (Leapfrog toys etc). To help keep everything contained, we place the magnets on a cookie sheet or jelly roll pan. It makes it so much easier to see all the letters, or pieces, and they’re far less likely to get lost in the seats. I’ve even covered some of the cookie sheets we use with contact paper just to brighten them up a little.
